Ajrakh cotton sarees are special because of their unique craftsmanship, heritage, and eco-friendly production process. Ajrakh sarees are made using an ancient block-printing technique that dates back thousands of years. The intricate patterns are created by skilled artisans using hand-carved wooden blocks, ensuring each saree is unique. Ajrakh sarees are dyed using natural, eco-friendly ingredients like indigo, madder, turmeric, and pomegranate rind. These dyes not only give vibrant, earthy colors but are also gentle on the skin.
Length: 6.5 meters;
Blouse piece: Yes; Fabric: Cotton
First Wash
- Hand Wash Only: For the first wash, rinse the saree gently in cold water without using any detergent. This helps remove excess dye and sets the color
Subsequent Washes
-
Gentle Washing:
- Always hand wash your Ajrakh saree.
- Use a mild, pH-balanced detergent or soap that is gentle on natural fabrics and dyes.
- Avoid vigorous scrubbing or twisting, as it may damage the fabric and the block-printed designs.
-
Cold Water Rinse:
- Wash with cold or lukewarm water. Hot water can cause the colors to bleed or fade.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap.
-
Avoid Soaking for Long:
- Do not leave the saree soaking in water for extended periods, as it may weaken the fibers or fade the colors.
Drying
-
Air Dry in Shade:
- Do not expose the saree to direct sunlight, as natural dyes can fade.
- Dry it in the shade by hanging or laying it flat.
-
Avoid Wrinkling:
- Smooth out the saree gently after washing to prevent wrinkles.
Additional Tips
- Avoid Machine Washing: The agitation in washing machines can damage the delicate patterns and fabric.
- No Bleach or Harsh Chemicals: These can harm the natural dyes and fabric.
- Ironing: Use a medium-heat iron, and if possible, iron the saree on the reverse side to protect the prints.
- Storage: Store the saree in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Avoid plastic covers; use cotton bags instead.
